"Maibotsu" - Asian Double Eyelid Surgery

Asian Double Eyelid Surgery

Asian Double Eyelid Surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries for Asians who wish to transform their eyelids with natural-looking double eyelid crease. A double-fold eyelid created by the surgery helps to make the patients' eyes appear wider and brighter to achieve their ideal facial goal.

Maibotsu

"Maibotsu" is the name of the suture technique brought from Japan which results in a natural appearance and minimal scarring. A stitch pattern will be made along the eyelid and underlying tissues to create a fold without applying incisions. The stitch used is dissolvable but will hold the eyelid in its new shape securely. The Maibotsu surgery takes approximately thirty minutes to an hour.

“Maibotsu” / Asian Double Eyelid Surgery and What to Expect

Starting with the initial consultation, our surgeon will include your suggestions during the eyelid design. The design varies from creating one suturing dot to a maximum of three dots. Several different designs will be demonstrated so that you can select the design you prefer most. The double eyelid usually lasts many years, but this can vary from patient to patient and the technique desired.

During the procedure, you are provided with various numbing techniques so that you do not have any pain during the procedure. Afterward, the pain is very minimal during recovery and most patients do not require any pain medications. There is usually only mild swelling after the procedure, which is not very noticeable to others. However, there can be more swelling in some people.

Potential Candidates of “Maibotsu” / Asian Double Eyelid Surgery

Asian eyes tend to have a smaller or weaker muscle called "levator" that works to lift the eyelid. Also, Asian eyelids are generally thicker with more skin, muscle, and fat. These factors contribute to many Asians having what is called a "monolid" or "single eyelid".

If you wish to change the appearance of your monolid or create a more natural appearance with your double eyelid crease, Maibotsu will improve the balance of your facial harmony with brighter and wider eyes.
